Overview

This summer program focuses on comparing the ocean ecosystems in Elkhart with the ocean ecosystems in Maine.  During this program we have at least one field trip every day usually around water and students complete journals, read articles on marine issues, and create projects related to what they have learned. Students learn about marine issues so that they can make a difference or go on to study marine biology.
The state and school corporation have experienced a budget reduction and therefore have cut support to our program. Our school district must cut around 4 million dollars.  We feel that many of our students will not be able to take advantage of this opportunity due to the cost increase.  Our students come from different economic groups and different ethnicities.  Almost half of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. If we cannot cover the cost for all 28 students then none of the students will be able to participate.

How will the 5K be Used?

Budget Notes: Food for the students. They will need to cover this cost.
