Overview
Music Therapy is able to reach children in a fun and engaging way. Parents and siblings can also participate, allowing music to become a rewarding experience for everyone.
Growing research, in the fields of music therapy and early childhood, reinforce the benefits of music with infants, toddlers and young children. A recent study found that children with autism requested singing a story more than reading the same story, and their parents reported an "increase in emotional identification after the (music) intervention" (Hinze, R., Larkin, C. & Stanton, G. Early Childhood Newsletter- AMTA, 2009).
Through this outreach program, I hope to share the joy of family music making for children with special needs and their families. I will assess and develop therapeutic goals to address different areas of each child's development, while providing music activities to bring home for all family members to enjoy.
