Overview
We work with children in the Appalachia area. Many come from broken and poverty-stricken homes. Many have been neglected and abused therefore most of them have low self-esteem and very low (if any) goals in life. We have found that we can help instill self-confidence and give these kids hope through working with horses.
We will have riding and training camps. There will be separate camps for children and teens. At the end of the week parents are invited to come watch their children show off their riding skills. In their training, they will learn to trust the horse. The children learn responsibility as well as build their confidence and self-esteem as they learn to care for, groom, saddle, and ride horses as welll as take care of equipment.
The responsibilities learned and the self-esteem built up carry over into other areas of life, and give the kids hope and confidence to reach for and attain higher goals than they believed they ever could before.
