Overview
Makefield Elementary is currently undergoing a "green renovation" that will be LEED Silver certified. The renovation will address operational and educational needs for the future, capitalize on unused interior space to minimize the size of the necessary addition, increase classroom space, create a new cafeteria and kitchen, and address accessibility and security/control improvements. Our school is a leader in recycling practices and is the 1st elementary school in Bucks County, PA to use green building practices like a green roof and replacement of existing paving with pervious pavement. Three large trees were cut down at the start of the renovation and in keeping with our green practices to reduce, reuse and recycle, we felt it was important to reuse the wood to make items for the school such as outdoor benches, tables and chairs for outdoor learning and eating areas and bookshelves for the school. This project will contribute to our LEED certification.
